Terror by Design

John Donne wrote,

“Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.”

In Minneapolis this month, that bell has tolled more than once.

Two lives — two people — were taken by federal immigration enforcement.

On January 7, 2026, Renée Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was shot and killed by an ICE agent during a federal operation. A medical examiner later ruled her death a homicide.

Then, on January 24, 2026, Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse and respected caregiver, was shot multiple times by a Border Patrol agent. Federal officials initially claimed he brandished his weapon and was coming at them with intent to do harm. Video evidence and eyewitness accounts tell a different story — that he was holding his phone, attempting to help others, when he was killed.

Minneapolis is grieving. Protests have filled the streets. Local and state leaders are demanding accountability. Across the country, these deaths have sparked outrage, organizing, and fear.

But there is a deeper truth we are still avoiding.

This is not just a tragedy.
This is not just about immigration policy.
This is not just about excessive force.

This is about who this administration is willing to terrorize — and who it is willing to ignore.
